Belize Conservation Issues
There’s a lot of conservation effort here, and rightly so. But it’s an ongoing battle. Belize is relatively unpopulated and therefore, fairly untouched. Although, I can see it starting to boom in the next few years, and here comes the battle between keeping it as it is, or pushing forward toward the Western world.
Pessimistic issues of Belize:
- The three dams, Mojollon, Chalillo and Vaca
- Xateros
- The development of Placencia
- The new airport
- De-foresting in the Vaca Plateau
- The planned 100 acre development in the Vaca Forest Reserve
- The motorway through Toledo
Optimistic Issues in Belize
- Half the population are under 15
- Protected areas are growing and expanding all the time
